In this LAB, the learner will explore the following questions: - What household chores do I carry out on a regular basis? - What are some of the harmful effects of my housecleaning practices on the environment? - What are some ways to reduce these harmful effects? They will then organize this information in a handbook containing tips for green housecleaning. They can take this handbook home to share with other members of their household.
The reading, writing, and discussion activities in this learning booklet were designed to help the learner acquire the language skills needed to ensure that their home and greater environment (i.e. planet) is safe, clean and healthy for themselves and for their children. This includes examining their day-to-day routines with regard to household chores. They will describe and discuss their cleaning practices; research the effects of these on their health and the greater environment; find alternatives for harmful cleaning products; and create a handbook of green housecleaning tips.
The LAB is addressed directly to the learner and while it is based on the scenario, some of the activities have been adapted to suit the format of the LAB. It consists of activities and exercises intended to develop their English language skills. A Teacher's Guide has also been developed to accompany the LAB.
