DESCRIPTION

Many people experience “math anxiety”. This is a common phenomenon that can be addressed by exploring one’s feelings about math and one’s past experiences that employed mathematical concepts for various reasons. Braiding mathematics, language, and thinking can facilitate comprehension. By understanding what brought us to these present day math challenges, we can ready ourselves for future success.

INTENTION PÉDAGOGIQUE

Learners will understand that cognition plays a huge part in the acquisition of math concepts. They will also discover that math is not merely memorizing facts and procedures. The use of language is the quintessential characteristic of human cognition, and by asking questions, visualizing, inferring and predicting, synthesizing and metacognitive monitoring, students will gain much confidence as they master the components of this course by using and building upon what they already know
